Collections

I work with clay by hand, without molds, using an intuitive and free approach. Each piece is born from a spontaneous movement, from a feeling. Nothing is fixed, everything is alive. I create in small quantities, slowly and carefully. What matters to me is that each piece speaks, that it breathes, that it conveys something true.

AUDREY CERAMICS

Gri Gri

In African tradition, a Grigri is an amulet, a magical object used to bring luck and ward off evil. A Grigri must contain the four basic elements: earth, water, air, and fire.  This is the same in the ceramics process, where clay (earth and water) change their state through fire and air. In this collection, as in African Grigris, the artist adds elements (threads, stones, pearls, shells, etc.) to her pieces, as a form of accumulation, as a form of protection.

Audrey Fissiaux, passionate about primitive ethnic groups from around the world, is deeply drawn to the aesthetics of their way of life. Wood, straw, earth, wool, stones… are the natural materials used to build their homes, their everyday utensils, their colorful clothing, and, of course, their extravagant jewelry.

“For me, in primitive civilizations everything has value and meaning, a coherence that seduces me. The combination of natural materials, magic, the tribe… are the concepts that inspired me and I played with to create this exhibition. Thus, I tried to transcend the object itself, giving my pieces a magical value beyond the physical world.”
